What are GLP-1's (aka Semaglutide/Tirzepatide)?
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide) receptor agonist medications. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are used in the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Research has shown that they also help with lowering the risk of heart and kidney disease. These medications work in the pancreas to increase insulin production and help manage blood sugars. GLP-1 receptor agonists are released in the gastrointestinal tract after you eat a meal. This sends a signal to the brain to reduce food intake, appetite and hunger. The patient eats less calories, placing them in a calorie deficit. The decrease in calories along with exercise and good hydration allows patients to lose weight safely. Most patients can lose approximately 16-20 % of their body weight.
